Brittany’s heralded young sire American Ideal landed another stakes winner as his 4-year-old son Curator p,3,1:50.1 ($100,873) won the $30,000 second leg of the WEGZ Series at Woodbine on Feb. 11, pacing to the easy victory in 1:54.2. (Watch race)
The Jack Darling owned and trained gelding now heads to the $50,000 series final on Feb. 18. “We got to the front pretty easily right before the quarter and no one came at him. He won for fun,” said winning driver Billy Davis Jr.
The son of American Ideal-Gallery Hop, who never finished worse than third in all 10 of his sophomore starts, is an eight-time career winner. By capturing the lion’s share of the purse, he raised his lifetime earnings to $100,873.
Curator was bred and raised by Brittany Farms and was purchased by Jack Darling at the 2009 Lexington Selected Yearling Sale from the Brittany Farms consignment.
American Ideal has become one of the sport’s most sought-after pacing sires, having produced 2-year-old Canadian Champions in each of his first two crops and ranking among the leading pacing sires by yearling average at the 2011 sales.
His second crop, 2-year-olds of 2011, is led by World Champion and Canada’s “2-Year-Old Pacing Filly of the Year” American Jewel p,2,1:50.2 ($677,116) and the stakes and season’s record-setting colt Heston Blue Chip p,2,1:50.4f ($375,650).
