Manchego

The undefeated and top-ranked 2-year-old trotting filly Manchego, bred, raised and sold as a yearling by Brittany Farms, kept her unblemished record intact as she trotted away from her rivals to win the $600,000 Breeders Crown Final last night at Hoosier Park. (Watch Race)

Manchego 2,1:52.4 ($873,948), by Muscle Hill-Secret Magic, has won every classic this year that’s available to freshman filly trotters—the Breeders Crown, Peaceful Way, Jim Doherty Memorial, back-to-back Lexington stakes, and the Pennsylvania Sire Stakes Championship to boot.

She is both the richest and co-fastest 2-year-old trotter of the season—colt or filly—and now sports 12 wins in 12 starts for her owners Black Horse Racing, John Fielding and Herb Liverman. She is trained by the master Jimmy Takter, and has been driven in all of her outings by Yannick Gingras.

She’s the closest thing to a lock as there is to take home honors as the Dan Patch Champion 2-year-old filly trotter, and a case could certainly be made for voting her “Trotter of the Year” as well.

Brittany Farms sold the Muscle Hill lass at the 2016 Lexington Selected Sale for $120,000, with the sales slip signed by Takter for his ownership group.

The farm thanks everyone who purchased its yearlings at this year’s Lexington sale, and we wish you the same kind of outcome with the filly or colt that you took home!
