Brittany B/R/S Springsteen rocks Hempt Final

« Back

Jul 2nd, 18

SpringsteenSpringsteen p,3,1:48.3f ($479,423), bred, raised and sold as a yearling by Brittany Farms, won Saturday night’s $500,000 final of the Hempt Memorial at Pocono Downs in season’s record time of 1:48.3.

The victor in a thrilling 4-horse photo finish is back in fast form after a 2-year-old campaign that saw him take a freshman mark of 1:50.4 and win the $211,000 Matron Stakes and an elim of the $411,000 Governor’s Cup last fall.

The New York-eligible son of Rock N Roll Heaven-American Charm is owned by Allard Racing, Bruce Soulsby, Alan Weisenberg and Kapildeo Singh and trained by Rene Allard. He was purchased as a Lexington Selected yearling by Chris Ryder and sold to team Allard last fall.

Brittany-breds have already earned more than $3.8-million this year, and it appears that the farm’s 2018 2-year-olds—the first foals completely raised at the new farm—are going to significantly add to that total as the freshman stakes season unfolds.

Just last week Brittany-bred 2-year-olds won in the first round of stakes action as Certify 2,1:59.2 (Credit Winner-Good Intentions) won his New York Sire Stakes at Buffalo and Special Honor 2,1:57.1 (Father Patrick-Honor Thy Daughter) won her New Jersey Sire Stakes at the Meadowlands.

With other Brittany-bred freshmen like Egomania p,2,1:53.4, Captain Ahab p,2,1:54.1, Cash Reward p,2,1:54.2, Shipshape p,2,1:54.2, U S Captain p,2,1:55 and Don’t Let ’Em 2,1:55.1—plus many others—likely to join them soon, it looks like an enjoyable summer for those who purchased Brittany yearlings last fall.
