Heston Blue Chip p,2,1:50.4f; 3,1:49.2f ($466,337), by American Ideal, lowered the North American season’s record and the Tioga Downs track record when he took the easiest of wins in the $55,688 Historic Series-Jersey Cup at Tioga Downs on Sunday.
His 1:49.2 win over the 5/8-mile oval eclipsed the previous season’s record held by Sweet Lou and marked his third straight win of the season. With earnings now approaching $500,000 and no less than 14 stakes wins on his ledger, his sights are set on bigger things ahead.
“He is staked to everything from here on out, but the Meadowlands Pace is the one that I am looking toward and the one that I would really like to win,” said his owner, Ken Jacobs.
The colt won the Matron Final at Dover Downs and the NYSS Championship at Yonkers at 2, and he will return to Yonkers Raceway for his next start, Jacobs said. Heston Blue Chip, named after the legendary actor, is trained by Linda Toscano and was bred by Blue Chip Farms.
This colt’s impressive win added an exclamation mark to a great weekend by his sire, as American Ideal produced the 1-2 finishers in the $642,000 Fan Hanover Stakes Final at Mohawk, with American Jewel p,2,1:50.2; 3,1:48.2 ($1,023,613) establishing a World Record and becoming her sire’s second million-dollar winner.
