A Brittany-bred sweep in Saturday’s Bluegrass Stakes
10 . 4 . 2009
A pair of sophomores bred by Brittany Farms swept both divisions of the $251,000 Bluegrass Stakes 3-Year-Old Colt Pace at The Red Mile on Saturday, with Vertical Horizon p,3,1:51.1 winning the opening split and recent millionaire Vintage Master p,3,1:49.2f scoring in the second.
Vertical Horizon (Western Ideal-Summer Mystery) has now earned $300,000 in 2009 alone by virtue of winning or placing in five stakes races. He was purchased as a yearling by Travis Alexander, agent for owner Bulletproof Enterprises. The colt is trained by Tracy Brainard.
Vintage Master (Western Ideal-Art’s Vintage), who recently became the 20th million-dollar winner bred by Brittany Farms, has now tacked on the Bluegrass to earlier wins in the Cane Pace (Season’s Record 1:50.4h) and Adios.
At the Lexington Selected Yearling Sale, starting Wednesday night, Brittany will sell Hip 158 Vintage Inn, a New York-eligible American Ideal colt (first crop) from Art’s Vintage, making him a three-quarter brother to Vintage Master.
And a Bluegrass Stakes 2-year-old winner as well
A 2-year-old colt trotter that was bred, raised and sold as a yearling by Brittany also won his division of the $422,000 Bluegrass Stakes at The Red Mile last Thursday, as Wishing Stone (Yankee Glide-Meadowbranch Magic) won in a career best 1:55. For more on that story click here.
