Brittany stallions red-hot in the Winter Late Closers
1 . 10 . 2010
Although we’re months away from the “serious” stakes season, there are plenty of Winter Late Closers on tap at the Meadowlands and Woodbine, and progeny of the Brittany stallions are making their presence felt.
At the Meadowlands, Real Desire’s Real Joke p,4,1:51.4 turned in one of last weekend’s most memorable performances, as he won the fastest division of the $90,000 (div.) Clyde Hirt Series in a career best 1:51.4. The 4-year-old, owned by Brian Gordon, Toby Rekoon and Stewart Goldberg and trained by Julie Miller, took the lead at the half-mile poile and proceeded to draw away and win by six lengths, with a last quarter of :26.1. He’s now 2 for 2 on the young season after taking a NW4 a week earlier.
Another Real Desire 4-year-old that was bred, raised and sold as a yearling by Brittany Farms, Real Image p,3,1:52 ($141,115), won the fastest division of the $60,000 (div.) Complex Series at the Meadowlands. He scored as the odds-on favorite in 1:52.2 with a :27.1 final panel. This stakes winner is owned by Steven Carter, Robert Reid and Chuck Grubbs and is trained by Josh Green.
Real Image is slated to be sold at the January 18th Meadowlands Mixed Sale. He’s already made a nice return on investment for his owners, and as one of the sale highlights, should earn even more for them in the sales ring.
Not to be outshone was Brittany’s hot young stallion Four Starzzz Shark. He sent out a 3-year-old winner in the $60,000 (div.) Snowshoe Series at Woodbine. His son Lake Shark p,3,1:55.2, stakes-placed last year at 2, made his second 2010 start a measured win in a career record. He is owned by Eric Kints and Robert Hamather and trained by Casie Coleman.
Congratulations to the connections of these horses, and good luck staying on your hot streaks during the winter cold!
