Hip 41 U S Captain

It’s the time of year when men and women in racing dream big dreams… as their 2-year-olds in training wind up a bit more, and begin to showcase those brief flashes of early speed.

A pair of 2-year-olds bred, raised and sold as yearlings by Brittany Farms are a big part of that late winter discussion right now, as they’re turning heads at Sunshine Meadows. A story by observer and journalist Bob Marks in Daily Racing Form Harness Weekend illustrates the point.

Here’s the excerpt:

Thus far Captaintreacherous progeny illustrate many of the same tendencies he showed, being willing trainers with great attitudes, and all are nicely gaited.

“If I had to pick out two that most remind me of the Captain (Captaintreacherous) it would be U S Captain, the colt from American Jewel, and Shipshape, the colt from Fresh Idea,” said trainer Tony Alagna.

Both U S Captain and Shipshape were plucked from the Brittany Farms consignment in Lexington at $180,000 and $175,000, respectively. U S Captain is the third foal and first ‘Captain’ from the brilliant American Jewel p,3,1:48.2 ($1,840,565), she an American Ideal three-quarter sister to free-for-all star Luck Be Withyou from the prolific Trim Hanover. Shipshape from the Western Hanover mare Fresh Idea is a half-brother to last year’s excellent Bettor’s Up, by Bettor’s Delight.

Brittany wishes the connections of these 2-year-olds the best of luck on the road ahead, and we hope we’ll be reading more about you this summer when the freshman stakes season ramps into gear.
