Oaks Winner No. 5 for Brittany Farms!

« Back

Aug 5th, 18

ManchegoBrittany Farms is proud to have bred its fifth winner of the Hambletonian Oaks now that Manchego, bred, raised and sold as a yearling by the farm, joined that list of superstar fillies with her definitive score in the $500,000 trotting classic at the Meadowlands. (Watch Race)

She follows Brittany-bred Hambletonian Oaks winners Lifetime Pursuit (2014), Passionate Glide (2006), Marita’s Victory (2000) and Lookout Victory (1995).

This was not only Brittany’s fifth Hambletonian Oaks winner, but also the fifth straight Hambo Oaks won by Takter and his go-to driver Yannick Gingras. Quite a feat!

Manchego 2,1:52.4; 3,1:50 ($1,236,170) won the Oaks in gate-to-wire fashion in its fastest time ever—1:50 flat—which was just 1/5 off the world record set only recently by Plunge Blue Chip, who finished third in this event.

With her Oaks score, Manchego, a daughter of Muscle Hill-Secret Magic (Cantab Hall), became the 36th millionaire bred by Brittany Farms or Brittany Farms and partners. The farm ranks as harness racing's leading breeder of millionaires in percentage of seven-figure winners from foals bred.

Manchego, last year’s Dan Patch Champion “2-Year-Old Trotting Filly of the Year,” was purchased as a yearling for $120,000 by her trainer Jimmy Takter at the 2016 Lexington Selected Sale. She is owned by Barry Guariglia’s Black Horse Racing, John Fielding and Herb Liverman.

Brittany congratulates all involved, and wishes everyone continued success on the road ahead with this great champion.

Brittany will sell two Muscle Hill yearling colts this fall in Lexington, and of note is the fact that both are out of Cantab Hall mares… just like that sire’s standouts Manchego, Ariana G and Southwind Frank.
