Brittany B/R/S Bettor’s Wish wins $300k Rooney

Perhaps the best known Brittany-bred bargain yearling purchase is He’s Watching, who was sold for just $3,000 before he went on to win the Meadowlands Pace and $1.1-million. But another is on the way, as Brittany bred/raised/sold Bettor’s Wish—a $20,000 Lexington Selected yearling—just won the $300,000 Art Rooney Final.

Bettor’s Wish’s score in last Saturday’s Rooney (Watch Race) was the second classic race at Yonkers this year to be captured by a horse that was Brittany bred, raised and sold, as the $664,000 Levy Final for FFA pacers was won by Western Fame p,1:48.4f ($1,489,820).

Bettor’s Wish p,2,1:51.1 ($452,056), by Bettor’s Delight-Lifetime Star, took a wire-to-wire win in his Rooney elim the previous week. In Saturday’s rich final he was even more impressive, as he tipped out and ignited past the half and motored on to score by six widening lengths.

His time of 1:51.4 is the fastest mile paced this year by a 3-year-old on a half-mile track.

Owned by trainer Chris Ryder, Bella Racing Ltd., Fair Island Farm and Kenneth Solomon, Bettor’s Wish has now earned almost a half-million dollars at 2 and 3. His other stakes wins (as a 2YO) include three Ontario Sire Stakes Gold legs plus an elim of the Battle of Waterloo.

He now makes a return to Canada—where he started his career—to participate in the $1,000,000 North America Cup at Woodbine-Mohawk.

Brittany wishes good luck to his connections as the stakes season progresses, and we hope the world hears more about this Brittany-bred value yearling in the very near future.
