The New York Sire Stakes program has changed eligibility requirements beginning with the 2024 breeding season, and for the state’s leading money-winning pacing sire American Ideal, it opens up a world of opportunity.
Shipped semen to out-of-state mares will now be available, and the mare residency requirement has been lifted — meaning foals from mares bred to a New York stallion and foaled out-of-state will now be eligible to the pot of gold that is the $12 million-plus NYSS.
And if you’re looking to breed a pacer that can earn a sizable share of that jackpot, American Ideal’s the man!
American Ideal is the leading money-winning pacing sire standing in New York ($15 million in 2023) and ranks overall as the fourth-leading money-winning pacing sire in all of North America.
He has been a dominant pacing sire in the NYSS and has led the program in money-winnings for five of the past seven years. This year his 2 and 3-year-olds earned more than $1.7 million in New York Sire Stakes alone and include NYSS 2YO Filly Pace Champion Peace Talks p,2,1:55.4h ($225,569).
Other American Ideal notables racing in 2023 include Park MGM winner and NYSS standout Earthwindfire p,3,1:50.4f ($629,915), Empire Breeders Classic winner Vivians Dream p,2,1:50.4 ($632,882), International Stallion Stakes winner Camerican p,2,1:50.3 ($266,212), and Yonkers FFA standouts Covered Bridge p,4,1:48.3 ($1,093,535) and American Mercury p,3,1:49.3 ($1,065,840).
The latter two horses have brought American Ideal’s worldwide millionaire total to an amazing number: 17.
His ability to sire seven-figure earners, and year-after-year stakes stars both in New York and on the national stage, has made American Ideal yearlings valuable commodities. Including this year, he has sired 66 yearlings that have sold for $100,000 or more in his career.
