Another Hambo Day score for Manchego

August 04, 2019

A year after she won the $500,000 Hambletonian Oaks in near World Record time, Manchego appeared again on yesterday’s Hambletonian card at the Meadowlands to take an impressive wire-to-wire victory in the $186,000 Steele Memorial. (Watch Race)

In winning the Steele in stakes record time—and a career-record equaling 1:50 flat—she defeated three other millionaire older trotting mares: the great Hannelore Hanover, Plunge Blue Chip and Emoticon Hanover.

The now 4-year-old daughter of Muscle Hill-Secret Magic, bred, raised and sold as a $120,000 Lexington Selected yearling by Brittany Farms, has now taken an amazing 21 wins in 32 career trips to the post for career earnings of $1,699,035.

Not to be forgotten is that her career began with an undefeated 2-year-old season that saw her voted the 2017 Dan Patch Champion “2-Year-Old Trotting Filly of the Year.”

Brittany congratulates her owner Black Horse Racing and trainer Nancy Johansson and wishes them continued good fortune with Manchego as a racemare—and eventual blue chip broodmare prospect.

More great trotters and pacers are on the way, as Brittany will sell a loaded consignment at this year’s Lexington Selected Sale, Oct. 1-5 at the Fasig-Tipton Pavilion in Lexington, Ky. Click here to view the roster and pedigrees.
