Kentucky Oaks Winner — Our Neighbor!

May 13, 2024

The winner of this year’s $1,500,000 Kentucky Oaks at Churchill Downs, Thorpedo Anna, was foaled and raised at the Hicks family’s Brookstown Farm, located just two miles down the road from Brittany in south central Woodford County, Ky.

Brittany congratulates Judy and R.W. Hicks on the milestone accomplishment, and as Judy is part-owner of the filly, we wish her and her partners continued success as her stakes season progresses all the way to the Breeders Cup.

Thorpedo Anna, owned by Brookdale Racing, Mark Edwards, Judy Hicks and Magdalena Racing and trained by Lexington native Kenny McPeek, was sold as a yearling at Fasig-Tipton’s October Fall Yearling Sale, which incidentally follows the Lexington Selected Standardbred Yearling Sale held earlier that month at the famed facility.

She came into the Oaks as a winner of three of four lifetime starts and most recently scored a four length victory in the G2 Fantasy Stakes at Oaklawn Park.

Brittany Farms — like the Hicks family — has always been especially proud of the land upon which its horses are raised. The nutrient-rich, limestone-based soil and climate here in Woodford County provide the proper foundation that’s necessary to grow future champion racehorses.

That’s been proven true time and again in harness racing… and in Thoroughbred racing as well!
