Manchego notches her third World Record

July 27, 2020

Manchego, a 2019 World Champion on both mile (1:49) and 5/8-mile (1:50.1f) tracks, lowered her own world mark on a 5/8 when she won the $250,000 Spirit Of Massachusetts at Plainridge yesterday in a 1:49.3 tour de force.

The 5-year-old mare, bred, raised and sold as a yearling by Brittany Farms, defeated her nemesis Atlanta by 2 1/2 lengths. She marched to the front with a :25.2 first quarter and passed the rest of the markers in scintillating times of :53.3-1:21-1:49.3.

Manchego, by Muscle Hill-Secret Magic, is the fastest filly or mare trotter in harness racing history and has now accumulated lifetime earnings of $2,342,705. The victory in the Spirit Of Massachusetts was the 31st of her career. Congratulations to her owner Black Horse Racing, trainer Nancy Takter and driver Dexter Dunn.

Nearly a time zone to the west, Brittany bred/raised/sold Reflect With Me p,3,1:48.2 ($625,122) followed her win in the $194,400 Mistletoe Shalee at the Meadowlands with a track and North American season’s record 1:48.2 win last Friday in the $100,000 Nadia Lobell at Hoosier Park—the site of this year’s Breeders Crown.

Speaking of the Breeders Crown, Reflect With Me (Captaintreacherous-Remember When) was last year’s 2YO Filly Pace Champion, and she’s certainly carrying that form into her sophomore season. She is owned by Brad Grant and Brittany Farms and trained by Tony Alagna.

The sires of these two champions will be represented in the Brittany Farms 2020 yearling consignment, to be sold at the Lexington Selected Sale Oct. 6-10. Included are a Muscle Hill colt from one of the best families in the stud book, and a Captaintreacherous filly from the immediate family of Bettor’s Wish.
