Manchego now sport’s fastest female trotter

October 07, 2019

There is perhaps no trotter at the top of its game now more than Manchego. She followed her 1:50.1f World Record victory in the Dayton Trotting Derby two weeks ago with a powerful 1:49 win in the Allerage Farms Open Mare Trot last Sunday at The Red Mile—making her the fastest filly or mare trotter in the sport’s history!

The daughter of Muscle Hill-Secret Magic, bred, raised, and sold as a yearling by Brittany Farms, lowered the 1:49.1 all-age mark for distaffers that was previously held by 2018 “Horse of the Year” Atlanta. She powered to the front through fractions of :26.3, :53.3 and 1:21 on the way to her 1:49 clocking.

Her score in the Allerage on the closing day of the Red Mile’s Grand Circuit meet was her 24th win in 39 career starts, and pushes her lifetime earnings ever closer to the $2-million plateau.

Undefeated in 12 starts at 2, she won every classic that year that was available to freshman filly trotters and easily took honors as “2-Year-Old Trotting Filly of the Year.” She went on at 3 to win the greatest prize for sophomore filly trotters, the $500,000 Hambletonian Oaks, along with six other stakes.

Brittany sends heartfelt congratulations her connections, owner Black Horse Racing and trainer Nancy Johansson, and wishes them continued success as the fall racing season continues.
