Special Way Year’s Fastest 2YO Trotter

August 16, 2022

UPDATE! Combustion p,2,1:51.1 (Captaintreacherous-Acquavella), bred, raised and sold as a $260,000 yearling by Brittany Farms at last year's Lexington Selected Yearling Sale, goes 2 for 2 with an impressive win in the $30,000 KYSS Commonwealth Series at the Red Mile on Aug. 16.

Special Way 2,1:52.2 (Walner-Special Hill), a 2-year-old filly bred by Brittany Farms and partners Marvin Katz and Al Libfeld, scorched the Red Mile's surface in 1:52.2 in the $80,000 Kentucky Sire Stakes Championship Series on Aug. 15 to become the year’s fastest 2-year-old trotter, regardless of sex.

And if you’re looking for a Walner yearling this fall with incredible potential for early speed, you’ll want to make plans to see her full sister, Special Talent (see pedigree), selling in Brittany’s consignment at the Lexington Selected Yearling Sale.

Special Way, trained and driven by Ake Svanstedt, is one of a large number of Brittany-bred 2-year-old winners this year; in fact, those 2-year-olds have already won 30 races to date and include the winners of no less than 16 stakes races.

Four of those stakes races have been won by the Brittany-bred filly Twin B Joe Fresh p,2,1:48.4 ($136,877), who just so happens to be the year’s fastest 2-year-old pacer. This winner of the Geers at the Meadowlands, two New York Sire Stakes and a leg of the Kentucky Sire Stakes Championship Series was bred by Brittany and sold in utero at the 2019 Harrisburg Mixed Sale.

Those who purchased Brittany Farms yearlings last fall have taken full advantage of their horses’ “dual eligibility,” which Brittany is proud to offer on all of the horses it breeds and sells. Dual eligibility means that yearlings are eligible for nomination not only to the sire stakes program in the state or province in which their sire stands, but to the newly enriched Kentucky Sire Stakes as well.

Aside from Mohawk’s Whenuwishuponastar Series winner Bankers Luck p,2,1:52, all of the Brittany-bred 2022 freshman stakes winners — including Twin B Joe Fresh — have raced in KYSS events at the Red Mile and/or Oak Grove meets and come away with eight stakes wins.

In addition to Special Way, four other 2YO stakes winners have siblings selling in Brittany’s 2022 yearling consignment:

• Novel 2,1:55.4-’22 — Selling his Walner half-brother Time Traveler
• Espresso 2,1:57.2-’22 — Selling his Walner three-quarter sister Pizzelle
• Diamondsnpearls p,2,1:52.2-’22 — Selling her Bettor’s Delight half-brother Money Exchange
• Yes Please 2,1:55.1-’22 — Selling her Father Patrick full brother Vocalize

Stay tuned… yearling videos are in progress and will be available soon here on our website. In the meantime, you can have a look at the farm’s complete yearling roster and pedigrees by clicking here.
