Youaremycandygirl rated no. 1 pacer

April 23, 2018

American Ideal’s World Champion filly Youaremycandygirl, voted last year’s Dan Patch Award as “2-Year-Old Pacing Filly of the Year,” has been rated the no. 1 pacer—among both colts and fillies—in Hoof Beats magazine’s 2018 Comprehensive Predictive Pacing Rankings.

It is rare that fillies sweep both the pacing and trotting honors, but it happened this year to a pair that both have Brittany connections. Brittany Farms bred, raised and sold Manchego was earlier named the sport’s top trotter as she heads into the 2018 stakes season.

Youaremycandygirl p,2,1:50 ($895,615), bred by Birnam Wood Farms and owned by Bill Donovan, became the fastest freshman pacing filly of all time with her sparkling 1:50 score in the International Stallion Stakes at Red Mile. The Ron Burke trainee won 9 of 11 starts overall and counts among her wins the Breeders Crown (elim and final), She’s A Great Lady, Three Diamonds, Matron, and three New York Sire Stakes.

With a seasonal bankroll of almost $900,000, she is far and away the leading money-winning filly or mare pacer of last year, regardless of age.

Should all go according to plan in the coming months, she is nearly assured of becoming her sire American Ideal’s 12th million-dollar winner.

Future champions for American Ideal are certainly in the pipeline. His 2018 book—now full and closed—is made up of mares that make it one of his best of all time… as has been the case for several years.

The results of those matings are going to be exciting to watch, so stay tuned!
