The NA Cup at Woodbine-Mohawk is North America’s richest event for pacers, and with the dominant score Pebble Beach p,2,1:48.4 (by Downbytheseaside-Santa Rosa) increased his career bankroll to $803,150 and is well on his way to becoming the 45th Brittany-bred to achieve millionaire status
Floating out from the five hole with regular driver Todd McCarthy at the controls, Pebble Beach was parked through a :55 half before passing Beach Glass and assuming control of the pace. Heading down the lane, with a crowd forming behind him, he paced on powerfully and maintained his 2 3/4-length lead throughout to score in 1:50 flat.
Brittany congratulates his owners Patricia Stable, Joe Sbrocco, Country Club Acres, LA Express, John Fodera and Deo Volente Farms and trainer Noel Daley.
The striking colt, an $85,000 yearling buy, has now won 10 of 15 career starts and has never finished worse than third. Last year at 2 he paced to a freshman mark just 1/5 off the World Record (1:48.4) while winning the International Stallion Stakes, his Breeders Crown elim (3rd in the $600,000 final) and three legs and the $250,000 final of the Kentucky Sire Stakes Championship Series.
This year he won the Somebeachsomewhere at Mohawk then followed that score with wins in both his elim and the final of the North America Cup. Stay tuned — he’s just getting started!
